Review of Voopoo X-217 Mod. A brilliant piece of disappointment

This review will be dedicated to the new box mod from VooPoo, which has a very short name X-217 and impressive dimensions. And also a very controversial appearance and no less controversial filling.

Although the VooPoo Company has been around since 2014, it was somehow invisible against the general background until 2017. What it was doing for three years is a great secret, although it seems to be something to serve the medical industry. In 2017, the American brand WoodyVapes was bought out and the GENE chip began to be used for its own products. Perhaps only Eleaf with iJusts and Wismec (essentially the same Eleaf) with Reuleaux series mods can compete with the success of the triumphant DRAG mod.

On the other hand, VooPoo could not afford to remain a “one-product company” and released something new with enviable regularity: two and a half versions of DRAG, Alpha One, the hero of this article X-217, Vmate, Caliber, Mojo, Too, Rex, three versions of the unserviceable UForce tank, four RDAs (Pericles, Rune, Conjure, Demon), a serviceable Rimfire tank and three pods (VFL, Panda and Rota). buy coils australia Frankly speaking, from this entire list, except for DRAGs, not a single device is anything special. Including the new X-217.

Voopoo X217 MOD – packaging

The mod is sold in a cardboard box under a dust jacket, on which a schematic mod with the WoodyVapes logo is drawn, but under the name VooPoo. The name is indicated at the bottom, which can move to the middle if the packaging contains a warning about the dangers of nicotine. On the back side there is a list of the package contents, warnings, particularly important and trivial notes on use and two stickers: the first with an authenticity verification code, and the second with a barcode and the color scheme of the device in the box.

The sides of the dust jacket are even less informative (QR link to technical support and logos of Internet resources, with a brief indication of accounts for variety). The main box is simply black, textured “under the skin”, but essentially cardboard, a “gold” embossed logo on the front and insignificant information on the back.

What’s in the box

The kit is packaged with a flair for the “premium” market. Each accessory has its own box, and the mod is not only in soft plastic, but also in a separate bag, even the instructions are put in a small envelope. And everywhere in gold on black there is the VooPoo logo.

The first positive impression of the presentation was immediately ruined by the lack of 21700 batteries in the kit (although they were not promised on the box, they were stated on the WoodyVapes website page, and therefore there was still hope). In one of the boxes, a USB-microUSB cable for charging and reflashing was found, the second box turned out to be a fake, and the remaining two (which were just the right size for 21700 cells) contained only adapters for 18650.

X-217 Mod. Design

The form factor of the X-217 is quite trivial, one might even say familiar since the times of the cuboid: a box with slightly rounded corners, a battery compartment cover that opens from below, a screen in the front and buttons next to it, naturally, all this with an adjustment for the increased dimensions of the batteries. However, the mod cannot be called excessively large, it is quite comfortable and fits well in the hand. This is due to two side pads “under carbon”, but the rest of the surface is screamingly glossy, like a polished surface of hematite. The design is diluted with two inserts made of polymer resin (on the Fire button and on the back of the mod). The weight of the VooPoo X-217 also does not go beyond the limits of reason – thanks to the zinc alloy as the main component of the chassis. Yes, it is not as reliable as steel, but it is also much more practical than soft aluminum.

X-217 Mod. Personal impressions

What I liked

“Luxury” packaging

Support for 21700/20700/18650

Gorgeous screen

Carbon and rubber inserts (against the background of all the other gloss)

What is simply good

It works

The clock does not go wrong after removing the batteries (at least for a week, and maybe longer)

Relatively simple menu and control

Convenient battery compartment cover

Switchable backlight

What is controversial

Impressive dimensions

No 21700 batteries included

What I didn’t like

Glossy and easily soiled surface 70% of the mod

Initially non-working adapters for 18650

18650 and 20700 rattle in the case

MicroUSB charging socket

The board is blatantly lying

Total

I had high hopes for this mod and tried my best to find there is at least something good in it, but in fact it is just a shiny piece of disappointment, at least until the release of firmware that fixes the blatantly lying board (and the gloss can only be fixed by time or a piece of sandpaper, well, maybe also a case).
