In today’s review we’ll take a look at one of the new devices from the productive Chinese company Smoant under the familiar name – Battlestar Squonker Mod.
It seems that many manufacturers only now, when the wave of interest in squonk systems has almost died down, start to fully incorporate their imagination and engineering experience. One of the most interesting examples of a competent approach to a beaten design is Topside 90W Mod from Dovpo and TVC, which is a device with an unusual refueling system that, according to my personal experience, showed itself perfectly in daily use. Today’s review is dedicated to no less interesting device, this time from our old friends Smoant. The new device from the famous Chinese, although it can’t boast the same beautiful cover, but offers some no less interesting solutions for convenient use, realized in the new “battle cruiser”.

The kit includes, in addition to the kit, all possible add-ons that may be needed during the use of both the mod and the dripper. Although some nuances are still controversial. First of all, questions are raised by the cotton plate next to the tool, coils and o-ring. And secondly, the smell from the bottles, both installed and spare, it is better to wash them thoroughly before the first use.

Size of the Smoant Battlestar Squonker KitWhat Smoant primarily focuses on in its device is the “innovative button for using the squonk function”. I won’t lie, although this is the first time I’ve had a device with a liquid supply of this type in my hands, but something similar has already appeared on the market before, or rather in the “failed” Advken CP Squonk Kit. Looking ahead, I can say that pressing this button is convenient and pleasant, the size of the “mushroom” is chosen just such that with the necessary force it does not cause discomfort. The overall dimensions and outlines of the mod repeat the already classic Battlestar, which many have fallen in love with for its convenient dual-battery format and ergonomic shape. Although our copy is larger than the old man, it is not nearly as large as many dual-battery squonks look, although it is noticeably high. The kit fits perfectly in the hand, and is also pleasant to hold thanks to the decorative recesses and rough coating. Fingerprints on the body are almost invisible, but the front glossy panel instantly collects everything that is not left on the metal. The same can be said about the upper platform, where condensation from the dripper inevitably collects, and about the glossy button, which can become the dream of any novice fingerprinter.
The buyer is offered four kit options to choose from: black, yellow, gunmetal (as in this review) and blue gradient. As far as I can judge from my colleague’s review of the same device, the kits differ not only in color, but also in texture; in my case, both the mod body and the dripper dome look as if they were roughly sanded. It looks very nice, in my opinion, but how durable it is can be found out with long-term use.

Impressions and conclusions
Smoant Battlestar Squonker KitThe kit is undoubtedly curious and, most importantly, very convenient for everyday use for sub-ohm lovers. It would be great if the manufacturer simplified the filling even more, but even in this form it does not cause much trouble. Perhaps, except for the fact that it is necessary to hold the batteries, since the lid of the bottle and the battery compartment is common. The dripper does not cause almost any questions, it is simple, but at the same time quite well thought out: a large bath holds a decent amount of liquid, the lower-side airflow gives an excellent taste with a competent placement of the coil. Airflow adjustment is more of a bonus than a practical necessity, you can achieve a tighter tightening if you do not need full lungs of steam, but then you need to watch where the coils are and where the air is directed when turning the skirt. The thick steel dome heats up quite slowly (again, with a good placement of the coils), but also cools down slowly. In general, the Battlestar Squonker RDA is an excellent example of a dripper, not particularly original, but at the same time without noticeable flaws, and is not perceived in this set as another ballast to the electronic mod. Moreover, both devices are perfectly suited to each other. For a couple of weeks of use, no serious problems emerged in it, except for a slightly skewed positive post.
Smoant Battlestar Squonker Mod bottle with liquid The Battlestar Squonker Mod box first of all pleasantly surprised with its dimensions, it is actually quite comparable to the compact old man Battlestar Mod (although, of course, and higher), just as convenient and comfortable, you can take it in your hand in different ways, and due to the bottle of an unusual flattened shape, installed almost between the cans, it is small in size. True, 7 ml is not as much as we would like, but the bottle is quickly and easily refilled, and in addition, there is always the option to bury the dripper from above. The functionality of the new board is also at a good level, there is almost everything that even a sophisticated vaper might need, except, perhaps, subtle customization, like DNA. But here the price for the setup is not at all “American”. Fire works quickly, the delay when pressing is felt only when waking up the mod, then the button responds instantly, and there were no lags or freezes in the board’s operation. But I still miss the current display on the manufacturer’s devices and the ability to switch to stealth mode.
Smoant Battlestar Squonker Mod Not everything in the solution from Smoant is implemented perfectly, I mentioned some things above, I will repeat some. The complaints include a noticeable smell of plastic near the bottle, which is noticeably manifested in the taste of the liquid. Moreover, washing the jar is not such an easy task, and I could not get the liquid supply system out of the container without pliers. But I was still able to get rid of the smell. My personal quibbles include the gypsy “gold” on the squonk button. If this detail were less noticeable, for example, black, in my opinion it would look much better. Especially since the gloss quickly becomes covered with condensation and fingerprints. Although, on the other hand, the button echoes the golden rim of the dripper base, so I will attribute this to the category of taste. I don’t really like that the bottle is slightly loose in its place, which is especially noticeable when pressing the button. If it were pressed tighter, the device would feel monolithic, but the can slightly spoils the impression of good assembly. Otherwise, there are no serious complaints, all the parts fit perfectly and the device left only a positive impression.
